I only really personally knew Ernie over the past 4-5 years. Prior to that I spent many years watching him at our Fellowship events. It was in the "watching" that I believe ones character comes through. Ernie, to me, seemed a man of integrity, honesty, compassion, patience, wisdom, and lightheartedness. It was for these qualities, and others, that I knew I wanted him to be my service sponsor. Of course, he agreed to be of service ~ as he always did. During our time of working together another quality became quite evident. Ernie was a man of humility. I remember being on a call with him once and he shared some of his thoughts about a situation that we were discussing. After we hung up, he called me back to apologize about interjecting his opinion on my problem. I never saw it or took it that way... his feedback was always welcome. But, I remember that act of humility and it's something I will never forget. Ernie never pretended to know more than he did and I knew he supported me and gave me confidence. He was always ready and willing to take my calls. That was the kind of man he was. I will miss him dearly. My prayers and thoughts go out to Suzanne and his family. I can only imagine the hole that has been left with such a gentle spirit. Love to you all and may you have peace and find laughter, as I imagine he would want.

The Frenchman, Canernie, with donuts able to outwork 2 men and a boy. Whats the best way to make a million dollars:start with 2 million. What do you think that will cost:a suitcase of hundred dollar bills. A gentile giant who left this world a better place than he found it.

I met Ernie back in the early 90's when we both answered a "roommate wanted" ad for a house in Campus West. Thus began the journey of several years of sharing odd houses and housesitting here and there. As a 20 something in possession of a strong back and weak mind, it seems like we were forever hanging ceilings when he didn't want to break out the lift, moving giant cast iron stoves and other 300-pound pieces he would find during one job or another, and generally living the good life. One Halloween Ernie invited me to his friend's house for a small party and when she was selling the place a short while later, it became my first (and cherished) - Ernie was an invaluable help in remodeling the garage into a living space so I could rent out the house and afford the payments. As a good mentor would, he let me use his tools, directed, and let me have at it - fixing my mistakes along the way.....Being 20 years his junior, Ernie was the cool uncle I never had. He taught me how to cook seitan, vegetarian pasta dishes, and how to make coffee so well it was nearly a vice! He also dispensed with actual sage advice concerning all aspects of life including women, sobriety, philosophy and home improvement. Many of his -isms stick with me to this day and include not necessarily needing to own something to enjoy it. He truly was wise beyond his years - even back in 1993. There was something spiritual about Ernie that I think people who spent time around him will understand. He had an active peace about him - not a stretch to say when at his best he was like a timeless monk moving through the modern world. Ernie, I will miss your big smile, easy way, unique take on life, and general presence.

As the Obit says, Ernie did amazing work around Colorado in Historic Preservation, because of his deep knowledge of plaster and his talent. Our go-to-guy. The Obit also got the bad jokes right and also his character and love of those around him............always a great person to talk to.I'm glad to have known him and glad he now has less pain. My best to Suzanne and his family.

Ernie was a wonderful guy, and someone I was proud to call a friend. I met him over 30 years ago while playing softball. He was a natural athlete - easily the best player on our team. Later he became our neighbor, and I often saw him riding his bike (with his golf clubs in a kid trailer behind him) on the way to City Park. He would usually stop and chat, and the conversation always ended with a smile and laughter. We'll all miss him, but the memories endure.

I learned so much from Ernie about our fellowships and love, and especially about "in order to keep it (the love), you have to give it away". He gave so much of it away, I'm sure he was full if it and took it all with him when his spirit left his body. I am grateful to have had him in my life. He will continue to be loved always.

Great guy! As an outfielder on the Snakes softball team he had a rocket of an arm and could hit the ball a mile! And he was an incredibly skilled craftsman. He drywalled all of Greyrock Commons in the 90s. And had the greatest laugh!

Ernie was one of the first program people I met when I moved back to Fort Collins in 2002. Kind, generous, thoughtful and caring. I had occasion to hire him for some repair work. He went above and beyond with craftsmanship and thoroughness. I was delighted that he and Suzanne found each other and found such happiness together. I will miss him being in this world. I treasure Suzanne.

A big man with a big heart and big hugs with those big construction-guy hands. We shared a whole lot of laughs together over the years, and a few tears, but it was the good kind of tears, the kind that help you grow. If my score-keeping is accurate, Ernie owes me a bad joke. And I plan to collect somewhere, some day. Thanks for sharing, Ernie.
