A History of Caring

Vessey Funeral Service takes pride in delivering the highest quality care at the most competitive price. We opened in Fort Collins in July of 2007 to serve all of Northern Colorado with compassionate and caring service. We are a family-focused funeral home dedicated to making a difference for those we serve. Our growing community deserves a responsive funeral care provider to deliver exceptional service at an affordable price.

Sarah Raile
Funeral Director/General Manager

Sarah is a Colorado native. Sarah obtained her Mortuary Science degree from Mt. Hood Community College in Gresham, Oregon after her Medical Assistant career took her to Seattle, Washington. Sarah has called Loveland home for the last eight years and has been serving Northern Colorado families for the last eleven years. She lives in Loveland with her husband, Aaron, mother Sue, two children, Kouper and Maya and three dogs, Dig, Otis and JJ. In her free time she enjoys yard work, spending time with her family, crocheting and the great outdoors.

Steve Vessey
Founder/Funeral Director

Steve Vessey, a Fort Collins native, graduated from Arapahoe Community College in 2001 with a degree in Mortuary Science, and has obtained the status of Mortuary Science Practitioner by the Colorado Funeral Service Board. Steve is the past President of the Colorado Funeral Directors Association and remains on the board as a director, and past chair of the Colorado Funeral Service Board. Active in many local and civic organizations, Steve is a past president of the Breakfast Optimist Club, past Lieutenant Governor of the Colorado/Wyoming District of Optimist International , a past president of the Larimer County Crime Stoppers organization. Steve helped organize the Fort Collins Soap Box Derby and served as its director for 11 years. Steve believes that funeral service is a ministry to be taken very seriously. After college at Colorado State University, Steve opened a Farmers Insurance Agency in Fort Collins, which remains in operation today. A career in funeral service began in 1984 when Steve began an internship with Mike Reager at the Reager Funeral Home and Crematory in Fort Collins.

Debbie Vessey
Funeral Assistant

Debbie, a Colorado State University graduate, has worked for the Poudre School District for 20 years, retiring this year to dedicate more time in the family funeral business. Debbie is a wonderful addition to the business.

Heath Carroll
Director of Operations

Heath is a native of Colorado. He was born and raised in Greeley, Colorado. He began Funeral Service in 1994 at the age of 16 at Stoddard Funeral Home in Greeley. Heath graduated from Greeley Central High School and then attended college in Dallas, Texas where he graduated from Dallas Institute of Funeral Service in 1998. Heath then returned to Greeley to become the manager of Stoddard Funeral Home specializing in making each funeral service a unique and memorable experience. He is a certified funeral director and embalmer, with a special talent in Reconstruction and Restorative Art.

In 2007 Heath purchased Lewellen Longmont Memorial Chapel. Between 2007 to 2022 Heath purchased Three more funeral homes in Northern Colorado.

Heath has three children and one Grand Daughter. In his spare time, Heath enjoys spending time with his family and vacations to Mexico or other Caribbean Countries.

Heath is a certified firearms instructor and volunteers his time teaching church security and training security officers to ensure they are held to the highest level of standards. Heath is very involved in Youth Group security and has led many youth mission trips to Mexico City.

Heath was involved in many other organizations. He has worked with Drive Smart Weld County, 19th Judicial Victims Compensation and Law Enforcement Board, Tailgate the Safety Way, National Crime Prevention Council 2007 Presenter, Suicide Education/Support Services and he was a board member for El Comite de Longmont.  He is also the Past President of the Colorado Association of Cemeteries.

Robert Sweeney, Jr.
Advancer Planning Director/Partner

Bob lives in Longmont with his wife Lacy; they have been married 33 years. They have four children Ben, Rafferty, Clara and Grace. He has an AAS Degree in Business Management; he also has various awards for Business, Insurance and customer service. He is a Certified Senior Adviser Course graduate. He also has his licenses in Colorado to sell Life and Health Insurance. He had 20+ years as a Dairy Farmer; and has experience with John Deere, Equitable Life, US Healthcare Group and The Hartford. He has helped establish two new retail outlets for different companies. He has also been involved in the Coffee Business, in the service and repairs department, for 10 years. He really enjoys serving families and helping them with their long term funeral needs. He enjoys spending time on his small farm raising Nubian goats for which he uses their milk to make homemade cheese and yogurt. He has a large garden and loves the county living. He also enjoys his 25 acres that he has a grass hay farm on.

Summer Giddens
Lead Funeral Director

Summer Giddens is the Lead Funeral Director of Vessey Funeral Service in Fort Collins. She entered into the Death Care Industry in 2022, as an intern, and once her internship was completed, she was aptly added to the Vessey Funeral Service team.

Summer was born in Fort Meyers, Florida and moved to Colorado in 1997. She lives in Fort Collins currently, with her husband Michael, their four children, and their many pets. Summer went to Metro State University of Denver for Anthropology. She also has certificates for Accounting and Bookkeeping, and Cosmetology.

In her free time, Summer enjoys spending time with her family, crafting, catching up on her favorite shows, and adding books to her library.
 

Andrew Pine
Funeral Home Assistant

Andrew is the Funeral Director & Lead Crematory Technician at Vessey Funeral Service-Wellington. He lives with his wife Sarine in Fort Collins with their cats & dogs. He was born in Baltimore, Maryland and was raised internationally in 12 different countries located in Europe, Africa, Central America, and Asia. He has a Master’s Degree in History, and a Post-Baccalaureate degree in Secondary Education; both from the University of Northern Colorado. He entered the funeral industry in 2006, after completing active-duty service in the United States Air Force. He is a published poet; and in his free time enjoys writing, reading, and grilling.
