Obituary of John Helmut

John Charles Helmut, 79, of Loveland, Colorado passed away on April 27, 2023.

John was born December 28, 1943, in Sterling, Colorado to John and Birdie Belle Helmut of Merino, CO. John graduated Merino High School and subsequently obtained an Associate of Arts degree from Northeastern Junior College in 1968. He completed his education by earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Marketing from the University of Northern Colorado.

John became the proud father of a son and daughter, Todd and Tia, with his then wife Bonnie, while living and working in Denver. He later had a calling to move out of the big city and returned to Sterling where he owned an American Family Insurance Agency. Years later he moved to Fort Collins and met his wife, Ann. They married in August 1999.Still in the insurance business, he worked for AAA Colorado and Bankers Life.

One of John’s favorite pastimes was golf. He also enjoyed playing pool (billiards), and with a little help from Bob Ross’ television programs became a self-taught fine art painter. No one was a stranger to John — he would often start conversations with a witty comment or by telling a joke. 

John was proceeded in death by his daughter, Tia Helmut. He is survived by his wife Ann, of Loveland, sister June Helmut, of Fort Collins, and son Todd (Kasey), granddaughters Kaitlyn and Allison of Wichita, Kansas.

John had an unwavering belief in our Lord Jesus Christ. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
