Obituary of Donald Markstrom

Donald Markstrom, age 91, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away on April 18th, 2023. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his passing.

Donald was born on January 29th, 1932, in Wadena, MN, to parents Harold and Emma Markstrom. He graduated from Henning High School in Henning, MN and went on to earn both a Bachelor’s and Master's degree of Science in Forest Resources from the University of Minnesota. He worked for the United States Forest Service as a wood technologist and researcher for over 32 years, and was well-respected in his field.

Donald was a devoted husband, and father. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Bonita, and his two children, Steven and Eric. He was a loyal, humble, and appreciative man, who always put his family first.  Donald was a Christian, baptized and confirmed in the Swedish Lutheran Church.  

In his free time, Donald enjoyed fishing, hiking, snow shoeing, boating, target shooting, and spending time with his family. After retirement, he particularly enjoyed outdoor activities with the local senior center and his daily afternoon neighborhood walks.  

Donald will be remembered for his kind heart, his sense of humor, and his unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

A private funeral service will be held on May 4th, 2023 in Fort Collins, Colorado.
