Obituary of Barbara S Wood

Barbara S. Wood (89) of Ft. Collins, CO died peacefully on March 18, 2023. She was born in Monte Vista, CO, the daughter of Robert and Myrtle Selters. She grew up on a farm north of Monte Vista, CO, raising hay, potatoes, sheep, and pigs. She was very proud of her agricultural heritage and even drove a school bus during her senior year. After high school she spent one year at the University of Colorado before transferring to radiography school in Rochester, NY. After completing her training, she went to work at Winchester (MA) Hospital where she spent just under 30 years. She culminated her career as the head technician for the X-Ray department. It was during her time in Winchester that she met her husband, Roger, through a church young people’s fellowship group.
In 1983, they moved to Ft. Collins, CO. For the next thirteen years she worked as a radiologic technician for a chiropractor’s office and a medical transcriptionist. During her latter working years and well into retirement, she was an active volunteer. She made hundreds of shirts for underprivileged children, hundreds of pillowcases for oncology patients of all ages, and blankets for displaced families through the Linus Foundation. She was active in her church choir groups in Winchester as well as Ft. Collins, and at one time was even a paid soloist during her early years of marriage. She enjoyed the outdoors, often taking walks with the dogs.
She was preceded in death by her husband Roger, her parents, and her sisters Kathleen and Marjorie. She is survived by her son Brian and his partner Debbie, her daughter Sandra (MacArthur) and her husband David, two grandchildren, and six nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the Pathways Hospice.
