Obituary of Theodore Frank Slavick

Obituary Theodore “Frank” Slavick passed away peacefully at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO on November 1, 2021, while surrounded by his loving family, mostly via FaceTime. This was after a short courageous battle with cancer. He was 65 years old at the time of his death. Frank was born November 4, 1955, in Los Angeles, CA, to Frank T. Slavick and Marguerite Rose Wilkens Slavick. As their family grew, they moved to Hesperia, CA – Frank would grow up here and graduate from the nearby Apple Valley High School with the class of 1973. Soon after, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as an Acoustic System Operator Naval Aircrewman with high level security clearance. In his 10 years of service, he was stationed in a multitude of south-east Asian countries and worked with threat analysis, navigation, IT and detection systems – he was honorably discharged. Frank was close to obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration but set the pursuit aside to move for military assignments and corporate / professional assignments and to raise a family. He prioritized time with his sons by being a hands-on dad (progressive for the time) who performed duties as a private chef, a chauffeur, and caretaker and was the only dad to be seen volunteering in his son’s classroom. For 30+ years, Frank worked as a consultant domestically and overseas as a business systems analyst & billing supervisor in Finance; Senior project manager in Information Technology; a contract writer by analyzing, writing and administering contracts; with a dual role as a professional writer in trade & technology, which included over thirty feature articles and white papers for corporate clients, covering technical and business topics. He also wrote fiction, which was published in magazines and completed a book. Frank found his dream job at the Department of Energy WAPA division as a contract writer. Frank worked until a few days before his death, which speaks of his work ethic, which was stronger than his illness. Frank had a thirst for knowledge, was an avid lifelong learner, and always emphasized the value of an education. He was a voracious reader of books and newsprint. He especially loved history and believed in learning from the past to inform our futures. With his photographic memory, freakish attention to detail and constant learning, he would often find omissions in these history books. Although he did not like conflict or drama, friends found it difficult to engage him in debate as he was deeply knowledgeable on facts. He championed the underdog, was community and politically involved, and volunteered time cooking at homeless shelters. Frank will be fondly remembered as a loving father, husband, and friend. He was an avid hiker, biker and cross-country skier and snow shoer and loved to travel with his wife, sons, and stepdaughter. He exuded humility and intelligence, and radiated an infectious sense of humor, even on the darkest of days. This all contributed towards a rich and deeply layered life. Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Frank T. and Marguerite Rose Slavick. He is survived by his loving wife, Jan, his sons: Frank (Jackie) of Ashland NH, Aaron of Los Angeles, CA and Bryce of Denver, CO; three stepchildren: Aaron Chesler of Denver, CO, Matt and Rachael “Andee” Chesler of Loveland, CO; five siblings: Anna (Robin Lewis) of Apple Valley, CA, Susan James of Grass Valley, CA, Margaret Slavick of Apple Valley, CA, Nicholas (Lorie) of Victorville, CA and Julie Hughes (Phillip Gaither) of Henderson, NV, and by numerous nieces and nephews and a new grandchild, Wylie (dad Aaron). A funeral Mass by Reverend Joseph Toledo is scheduled for 11 a.m., Thursday, November 18, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parish, 5450 S Lemay Ave, Fort Collins CO 80525. A luncheon will follow at the church hall. Burial will be at Fort Logan Cemetery December 2021. Our family would like to thank the MCR Progressive Unit/ICU for their kindness and professionalism.
