Obituary of Harriet Lemesany

Obituary Harriet Marie Lemesany (née Hartman), 93, of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully Sunday evening, December 12th, 2021 in Fort Collins. She will be remembered as a wonderfully kind and devoted mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend who actively served her community. Born to James D. & Louetta Hartman on April 6th, 1928, in Colorado Springs, Harriet wasted no time making headlines as she weighed less than three pounds at birth and was believed to be the smallest baby born in Colorado Springs at the time. Harriet loved to recount her early weeks as a child who was so small, she was incubated at the local hospital and slept inside a shoebox that fit in the family dresser drawer. She was the idol of attending nurses and doctors for her strength and resilience. Harriet married the love of her life, George K. Lemesany on November 5th, 1950 at her parents’ home in Colorado Springs. Harriet and George moved to Fort Collins in 1954 where she would remain a resident the rest of her life. The couple had three children. Harriet was employed for several years at the Larimer County Clerk and Recorder’s Office as a license officer. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed volunteering at the Columbine Nursing Home and as a Lincoln Center Docent. She was also a member of the Eastern Star, Rainbow Girls, and Extension Club. Her interests included quilting, sewing, cooking, gardening, her pets, and shopping (she loved a new pair of shoes). Harriet treasured her family above everything. She was an omnipresent fixture at all family events and the matriarch of the Lemesany clan. Harriet was proceeded in death by her parents, James D. & Louetta Hartman, her husband, George K. Lemesany, and brother, James D. Hartman III. She is survived by daughter, Lora L. (Del) Rupert, of Bozeman, Montana, and sons, David L. (Lynne) Lemesany and Gary L. (Shari) Lemesany, both of Fort Collins. In addition to her children, Harriet is survived by her seven grandchildren, the light of her life, including Kate (Chad) Bertuleit, of Centennial; Abbey (Grant) Earich, of Alexandria, Virginia; Becky Wagner, of Billings, Montana; Emily Lemesany, of Fort Collins; Lane (Fiona) Lemesany, of Houston, Texas; Lindsey (Ben) Miller, of Fort Collins; Colin Rupert (Katona) of Kalispell, Montana; and eight great grandchildren. Harriet was simply the best. She is already dearly missed by her family and friends. Please leave memories or condolences for the family here on the tribute wall.
