Obituary of M Kathleen "Kay" Uribe - Theodoratus

Obituary M Kathleen “Kay” Uribe-Theodoratus, 80, left us to travel the Astral Plane on December 27, 2021. Kay was born to Tillie and Hilario Uribe on May 11, 1941 in Roseville, CA. She attended school in Roseville and graduated with honors before attending Sacramento State College on a scholarship. Kay was fascinated by different ethnic cultures and majored in Anthropology. Her studies led her to meet her future husband, Robert “Bob” Theodoratus, who had been recently hired as a new Anthropology professor. Kay and Bob were married on August 11, 1962. The couple soon moved to Fort Collins, CO with their daughters, Sarah and Mia, after Bob accepted a new professorship at Colorado State University. Kay was devoted to seeking Social Justice. She volunteered with the League of Women Voters and while a college student in California, she joined Cesar Chavez and his organization, the United Farm Workers. She remained active in volunteering to aid underrepresented minorities. After she moved to Fort Collins, she joined Volunteers Clearing House on old Linden St where she helped low-income and single mothers find gainful employment. Kay was a creative person. She crafted beautiful embroidered pieces for friends and family. She was also passionate about writing. She wrote weekly articles for The Triangle Review, a regional newspaper in Fort Collins. She authored many magazine articles which led to her publishing a business magazine, Stepping Stones. She authored a beginning reader/ESL series “Pat the Pet” with friend and illustrator, Fran Coleman. Later in life, Kay began writing fantasy novels and short stories in earnest. She was finally able to attain her dream of being a published fantasy author with her Andor “Demons” series. She also created a series of novels and short stories about Half-Elven warriors fighting against genocide in the Marches. She is survived by her children: Sarah of Brighton, Amelia and Demetri of Bronx NY; brother Jerry Uribe of Roseville CA; sisters-in-law Dorothea Theodoratus of Fair Oaks CA and Alice Parker of Birdsview WA; and many friends.
