Obituary of John Strachan

Obituary John Strachan, aged 95, passed away peacefully on January 8, 2022 at Brookdale Assisted Living in Fort Collins. A Fort Collins native and lifetime resident, he operated family farms in southeast Fort Collins. Later he worked in Fort Collins area land development as a Vice President of HCI/Mitchell and Company. John served as a member of the Poudre R1 School Board from 1975-1979. He was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church and served as a board member or director for various northern Colorado agricultural organizations and irrigation companies. Always active in sports, he refereed high school football for over 50 years, and was a reliable first baseman on competitive fast-pitch softball teams for over 40 years. John skied until age 82. One of John’s favorite volunteer assignments (for over 10 years) was driving and later hosting the ski trip bus for the Fort Collins Senior Center. He particularly treasured the friendships developed over 30 years from the EPIC swim aerobics class and various coffee groups. He kept his John Deere tractor from the farm and maintained it for custom mowing and snow removal until age 90. John was extremely proud of his grandchildren and achieved his goal of attending every one of their high school and college graduations. John was preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Vada Strachan. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Strachan of Akron, Colorado; two children, Clint Strachan (Lea) of Fort Collins, and Luanne O’Meara (Mick) of Sonoma, California. His five grandchildren are: Betsy Klug of Burlington, Vermont; Susan O’Meara of Fort Collins; John O’Meara of New York City; Brett Strachan of Scottsdale, Arizona; and Ian Strachan of Austin, Texas. He has six great-grandchildren. Celebration-of-life arrangements are pending.
