Obituary of William "Bill" R Permer

Obituary William R. Permer - Obituary William R. “Bill” Permer, loving husband and father of two, passed away on Tuesday, July 12th, 2022, in Fort Collins, Colo. He was 91 years old. Bill was born on August 18th, 1930, in Evanston, Illinois, to William Paul Permer and Anne Katherine Permer (nee Barg). He grew up the youngest of three children at their home on Niles Center Road in Skokie, Illinois. After high school, he joined the U.S. Naval Reserve at Glenview Naval Air Station. In 1951, he joined the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War, including at the Pusan East (K-9) Air Base there. He was honorably discharged in 1955, having achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. After returning from the war, he worked for G.D. Searle & Co., the Farley Candy Co., and Coats & Clark – in and around the Chicago area – until 1963. In that year, Bill visited friends in Colorado and met his future wife, Ann V. Permer (nee Sorenson). In 1963, he packed up and moved to Greeley, Colorado, and, in 1967, Bill and Ann were married. Last year, they celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary. They raised two children: a son, William, and a daughter, Kathryn. The majority of Bill’s professional life in Colorado was spent working within the state’s judicial system, beginning in Greeley, Colorado, where he worked as a clerk of the District Court of Weld County. In 1966 he became the Chief Deputy Clerk of the District Court of Boulder County. In 1969 he was hired as the Deputy Clerk of the District Court of Larimer County and, in 1970, became the Clerk of the Larimer County Court – a position he would retire from in 1997. Bill was passionate about many hobbies in his life, including sight-seeing, history, genealogy, and model railroads. He was a prodigious reader of everything from historical biographies and accounts, to his several magazine subscriptions, and his daily newspaper. He played his accordion with enthusiasm and zest, and always enjoyed a good polka. He was known for having a kind and generous heart, and being even-tempered and fair-minded, and for his lively and wry sense of humor. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Anne, his brother Vern, and his sister Jane Loeffler. He is survived by his wife, Ann, their son William, their daughter Kathryn (Clu) Tamlin, and their grandchildren, Lindsey and Landrie Tamlin, and several cousins, nieces and nephews.
