Obituary of Gail Smith

Obituary Gail Smith, 79, long time resident of Fort Collins, Colorado, passed away peacefully on December 23, 2022, after a valiant battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. Gail was born to Martin Weissman and Isabel Weissman (Goldeen) in Berkeley, California on July 4, 1943. She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Pete Smith, her brother, Jeff Weissman, her two children, Greg Smith and Kim Bolin, and her three granddaughters, Bella Smith, Abby Bolin and Sophie Bolin. A celebration of life will be held at a date and location yet to be determined. After graduating from Berkeley High School, she graduated from the University of California, Berkeley where she earned a BA in Communications and Public Policy. Thanks to her multiple interests and dynamic personality, she then embarked on a variety of professions, which included social work, bookkeeping, driving a school bus, records for the Fort Collins Police Department and Work Release for the Larimer County Sheriff Department. She was well known and loved for her glowing smile, her warm and generous personality and her fun-loving sense of humor. She took great pride in lovingly embarrassing her children and would often be the one to start a water fight with her family, giggling mischievously. She loved animals of all kinds, which provided her with a multitude of fur-babies throughout her life as well as the opportunity to work with the Rocky Mountain Raptor Program at CSU along with a multitude of other animal groups. One of her favorite hands-on rehabilitation experiences was with Alyssa the Mountain Lion. She also loved to travel and probably would have circled the globe had she been given the chance. She was a voracious reader, phenomenal cook and loved golfing on a warm summer day with her husband and many friends. In her retirement, she was passionate about volunteering at Poudre Valley Hospital in the Emergency Department where she worked for 13 years! She was never happier than when she was helping people or animals.
