Obituary of Deborah Deakin

Deborah “Debbie” Deakin passed away on March 7th, 2023. Debbie is survived by her children, Rob Deakin (Amanda), and Lara Lindner, her sisters, Lauri Dickinson Jack, Joani Murphy, and Kati Hays, and her three grandchildren, Lauren and Will Deakin, and Joseph Lindner, along with many cousins, nephews and nieces.

Debbie was born on January 3rd, 1945, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, to Marita and George Dickinson. She grew up there and attended the University of New Mexico, where she met her husband of 52 years, Robert Deakin. They started a family in Albuquerque with Rob and Lara and in 1971, soon after Lara was born, they moved to Fort Collins, Colorado.

Debbie was a very active and creative stay at home mom and spent a lot of quality time with her children as they grew up. She was a Cub Scout Den Leader, and a Bluebird Leader. One of Debbie’s claims to family fame is she spent $10 on some particle board and paint and made a ping pong table that provided the family with countless hours of entertainment. She made sure every holiday was extra special for her family. Rob and Lara’s friends were always welcomed and treated as family in her home. She volunteered regularly in her kids' schools and was involved in the Parent Teacher Organizations every step of the way. Debbie was a proud, engaged mom.

After her children were grown, Debbie got a job in the office at Poudre High School, then moved to her dream job as an assistant in the Poudre H.S. Library. Debbie was an avid reader, and spent many happy years there, sharing her passion with students and colleagues.

When Debbie’s grandkids, Lauren, Will, and Joseph came along, she took the same hands-on approach with them, spending quality time with them and being involved in their lives. She was proud of her grandchildren as well and loved them very much.

Debbie enjoyed traveling, and had many meaningful trips with her mother and sisters. She liked being with friends in her book clubs and bridge groups. Her sense of humor was keen, and she laughed with her entire body, which in turn made everyone else laugh harder. Debbie was loved by many. We will always remember the good times, the laughter, and the pride and joy she had when she was with her family. We will miss her immensely.
